WebAug 5, 2024 · Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a complex neurological process that is seen in advanced liver disease. HE causes significant morbidity and mortality and is responsible for considerable burden on patients and their caregivers. HE is treated clinically and can be reversible, especially in the situation of an acute underlying process. Hepatic encephalopathy describes a broad range of neuropsychiatric abnormalities caused by advanced hepatic insufficiency or portosystemic shunting.
